RIIMPO301E – CONDUCT HYDRAULIC EXCAVATOR OPERATIONS
This Conduct Hydraulic Excavator Operations training course is intended for individuals seeking work in the Mines and Oil & Gas industries or anywhere that requires special training and licences to work with metalliferous materials, especially in extractive mines or quarry sites. A Registered Training Organisation (RTO Code 5722), Saferight’s Excavator training courses are all nationally accredited and recognised by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment on behalf of the State and Territory Governments.

ABOUT THE EXCAVATOR COURSE

This excavator training course in Perth is aimed at those currently working or seeking work in operational roles in the mining and construction industries who are required to operate an excavator. Students will attain the practical application and understanding required to safely and efficiently operate an excavator and will be able to:

1. Plan and prepare for hydraulic excavator operations
1.1 Access, interpret and apply hydraulic excavator documentation
1.2 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
1.3 Identify hazards and environmental issues, assess the risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies
1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities
1.5 Access, interpret and clarify geological and survey data required to complete the allocated work
1.6 Inspect and prepare work area in coordination with others
1.7 Select required hydraulic excavator equipment and confirm suitability for work activities
1.8 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fires, accidents and emergencies
1.9 Coordinate and communicate planned activities with others at the site prior to commencement of work activity
2. Operate hydraulic excavator in line with established requirements to complete work activity
2.1 Carry out prestart and start-up checks in line with workplace procedures
2.2 Identify faults or defects and rectify or report within scope of own responsibility and according to workplace procedures
2.3 Walk excavator and position for operation
2.4 Select and modify the operating technique suited to equipment capabilities, site and work conditions and according to workplace procedures
2.5 Monitor and manage equipment performance using indicators and alarms and in line with manufacturers’ specifications
2.6 Distribute bulk materials into materials handling equipment considering load limits, and ensuring equipment stability
2.7 Side cast bulk materials
2.8 Monitor hazards and risks during operations, and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
2.9 Park up, shut down, secure and carry out post operational inspection of equipment in line with workplace procedures
3. Carry out housekeeping activities
3.1 Clear work area and dispose or recycle materials according to workplace procedures
3.2 Manage and/or report hazards, and maintain a safe working environment
3.3 Complete and file or distribute documentation in a manner that complies with workplace practices
- Must be 18 years old and above
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Present photo I.D. on arrival
- Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
- Wear steel cap boots and remove all jewellery prior to commencement
- Bring along a hi-vis vest

EXCAVATOR TRAINING CERTIFICATION
On successful completion of this excavator operations course, students will receive a:
- Statement of Attainment for RIIMPO301E – Conduct hydraulic excavator operations.
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.
