A) HIGH RISK WORK LICENCE – If you do not have a High Risk Work Licence yet

After you’ve completed your training with us at and have been assessed by a WorkSafe Registered Assessor here at Saferight, we will go through the steps with you to complete all the necessary paperwork for your WorkSafe High Risk Licence.
B) HIGH RISK WORK LICENCE – Adding a new class to your current High Risk Work Licence

After you’ve completed your training with us at and have been assessed by a WorkSafe Registered Assessor here at Saferight, we will go through the steps with you to complete all the necessary paperwork for your WorkSafe High Risk Licence.
SUMMARY
This course is based upon the National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work in the licencing class of Personnel and Materials Hoist Operation. This course will give participants the necessary skills to operate a builder’s hoist in which personnel, goods and/or materials may be hoisted, and which comprises a car, structure, machinery or other equipment associated with the hoist, and which may be a cantilever hoist, a tower hoist or a multiple winch operation. Included in this definition are situations where winches may be configured to operate as hoists for the transportation of personnel for licensing purposes.

1 | Plan task. | 1.1 | Review task instructions, consult with relevant persons to seek clarification as required, and obtain relevant workplace information. |
1.2 | Obtain and interpret information, including safe work method statements (SWMSs), required to ensure that activities are performed in compliance with workplace-specific and safe work requirements. | ||
1.3 | Obtain and interpret information required to ensure that equipment inspection, use, maintenance and storage complies with manufacturer requirements. | ||
1.4 | Identify workplace and task-specific hazards and determine required risk controls and safety measures and equipment. | ||
1.5 | Calculate load weight, check that it is within the working load limit (WLL) of the hoist and distribute it in accordance with manufacturer requirements. | ||
1.6 | Establish required communication methods with relevant persons. | ||
1.7 | Review emergency procedures in consultation with relevant persons. | ||

2 | Select and prepare equipment. | 2.1 | Put risk controls and safety measures and equipment in place in consultation with relevant persons. |
2.2 | Access hoist safely. | ||
2.3 | Visually check hoist for damage and defects. | ||
2.4 | Carry out pre-start checks, including checking the hoist logbook and controls. | ||
2.5 | Carry out operational checks, including testing hoist safety devices and checking for fire extinguisher and other emergency equipment. | ||
2.6 | Ensure hoist is operating correctly and is free of obstructions. | ||
2.7 | Check communication equipment, lighting and alarm systems to make sure they are working and fit for use. | ||
2.8 | Conduct test run of hoist, check for abnormal noises and shut down, tag and report identified abnormalities as required. | ||
2.9 | Isolate, report, tag out and record defective equipment. | ||

3 | Conduct hoist operations. | 3.1 | Maintain communication with relevant persons during hoist operations and emergency situations. |
3.2 | Operate loaded hoist in accordance with manufacturer requirements. | ||

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years old and above
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Present photo I.D. on arrival
- Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
- Wear steel cap shoes/boots and remove all jewellery prior to commencement

CERTIFICATION
On successful completion of this Personnel and Materials Hoist course, students will be issued a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for:
- CPCCLHS3001- Licence to Operate Personnel and Materials Hoist
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.
