SUMMARY

This course is aimed at those working in operational roles that are required to operate light vehicles.

It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

Students will attain the practical application and understanding of defensive driving techniques and will be able to:

1. Plan and prepare for light vehicle operations

1.1 Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements

1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to operate a light vehicle

1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures according to workplace procedures

1.4 Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment for planned work activities

1.5 Plan vehicle operations with consideration to the work activity, route, passengers and equipment safety

1.6 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for emergency situations

2. Operate light vehicle

2.1 Carry out prestart, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures according to workplace procedures

2.2 Operate light vehicle according to manufacturer specifications

2.3 Complete light vehicle operations according to workplace procedures

2.4 Use vehicle lights and indicators in accordance with traffic regulations

2.5 Identify and respond to hazardous and/or emergency driving situations according to workplace procedures

3. Carry out operator maintenance

3.1 Conduct equipment inspections to identify faults according to manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures

3.2 Conduct routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping activities according to workplace procedures

3.3 Carry out minor maintenance and repairs according to manufacturer specifications

3.4 Provide operator support during preparation for, and conduct of, major maintenance tasks

3.5 Report defective or irregular performance to relevant personnel according to workplace procedures

3.6 Process vehicle written maintenance records according to workplace procedures

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • A current Australian Manual Drivers License (C Class). Licenses must be presented to the Assessor prior to commencement of the course. (Please advise when booking courses if any participants hold an extraordinary license as particular conditions may apply)
  • Present photo I.D. on arrival
  • Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
  • Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear and remove all jewellery prior to commencement

CERTIFICATION

On successful completion of this course students will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for RIIVEH201E – Operate a Light Vehicle and a wallet sized card.

The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.

CERTIFICATION EXPIRY

Your Statement of Attainment does not have an expiry date, however, industry standards recommend retraining every two years.
