Overview
This course will enable participants to recognise a confined space according to BHP Billiton Iron Ore Confined Space Procedure MAN-IHS-SAF-005. This course is designed for any person(s) required to enter and work in a confined space on a BHPBIO Site and/or any person(s) required to work as a standby/sentry for confined spaces on a BHPBIO Site.

This course comprises an equal theory-practical component ensuring all participants actively participate in confined space entries.

Key areas covered include:

Have an understanding of equipment safety requirements.
Be able to correctly apply confined space entry and exit procedures.
Have the ability to explain the risks and hazards experienced in confined spaces.
Have an understanding of air contamination and common toxic gases.
Recognise breathing apparatus, respirators and their limitations.
Be able to apply isolations and controls.
Be able to use basic atmospheric monitoring devices.
Be able to correctly complete risk assessments, complete permits and follow workplace procedures for confined space working.

Trainee/Instructor Ratio: Saferight - Min 4:1 - Max 12:1, On-site location - Min 4:1 - Max 10:1
Clothing:Wear normal work clothing and suitable footwear.
Please bring own gloves and hard hat.
Please remove all jewellery.

 

On-Site Delivery Requirements
Each site must ensure the following:

Minimum of four serviceable harnesses
Suitable classroom
Actual or simulated confined spaces with a minimum of three different entries

Note: If training is carried out on site, the client is responsible for travel and accommodation costs.
